Why Yoga class for TBI?
Often, when a person sustains a Traumatic Brain Injury, their entire life has been thrown into a tailspin. The body, mind, personality, and connections to the world we knew could all be altered in some way.
Adaptive Yoga class approaches TBI rehab from the perspective of the whole person. We will work together to bring balance and communication to our body, mind, thoughts, emotions, and connections to the world in which we live. The breath is the foundation to everything else we will practice and learn. When we learn how to access and use our breath as a tool, then our body and mind responds in turn.
Research studies conducted around Yoga class have shown:
- decrease symptoms of insomnia
- decrease pain
- decrease cortisol levels
- decrease depression and anxiety
- increase the benefits of the parasympathetic nervous system
- increase connections between the prefrontal cortex and the rest of the brain
- increase gray matter in the hippocampus
- increase overall sense of well-being
When a brain is healing we want to bring it out of places of stress, disease, and rumination and into places of peace, health, and awareness. By using the tools of Yoga class, we will find a practice that is tailored to each of our client’s needs and work together to exist in a place of presence and empowerment.

“…Yoga for TBI patients and their supporters is a wonderful therapy that works for me. I use yoga to help with my anxiety and PTSD. For one hour, I really get into myself through breathing techniques that I was taught. It’s a quiet time to re-charge my brain and calm everything down. That’s very important.
THANK YOU O.T. Plus for helping me find the new ME!”
